Chilled Chocolate Avocado Mousse



This one bowl, no mess, easy, and deliciously nutritious summer treat is sure to become a summer favorite, especially on lazy days when it's too hot out for anything. Yes, it's a healthy treat even though it's full of fats.


Wait. Don't decide you hate it yet. Let's talk about fats first.


The dietary fats in avocado are known to contain phytonutrients or phytochemicals. The five phytochemicals that are bio-active in the human body are Phenolic acids, flavonoids, tannins, carotenoids, isoflavons, sterols, and lignans. Avocados contain flavanoids quercetin, quercetin glycosides, naringenin, catechin, and epigallocatechin, as well as phenolic acids. Polyphenols and favanoids are both known to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-viral properties in the body.


Saturated fat, including trans-fat, which are animal derived, on the other hand, are the kind of fat that increase LDL cholesterol, make you feel sluggish, and are over-all not too heart healthy. It takes the body much longer and causes more work to break down saturated fats for digestion and that can lead to gas, bloating, indigestion, heart burn, and later, even esophageal issues. All of this can easily lead to weight gain ad the body's creation of more free-radicals.


Plant derived fats, such as the kind found in avocado, can help with weight loss because, in contrast to animal fats, they won't cause symptoms such as sluggishness, heartburn, indigestion, and bloating. When you have plant derived dietary fat, you are consuming more fiber with your macronutrients - proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids (fats) - and that essentially helps clean your digestive system at the same time. You also consume the important essential amino acids with plant based fats. These amino acids help your body form more solid protein structures which then help your muscles.
